Uses of Podofilox (Condylox and Condyline)
Podofilox, also known as Podophyllotoxin is used to treat EXTERNAL genital warts:
(condylomata cuminata) on the genitalia (penis and vulva regions) in males and females.
Podofilox can also be used to treat warts between the genitals and the rectum (perianal
warts). It is not used to treat warts inside the rectum, vagina, or urine passageways of the
male or female. Genital warts are caused by human papilloma virus (HPV), Podofilox works
by destroying the skin of the wart, it does not cure or remove the virus that caused them.
The warts cause by HPV can return and are contagious and can be transferred during
sexual contact, use of a condom may decrease the chance of the virus being transferred.
How to use Podofilox
Neither podophyllin resin nor the self administered podofilox lotions, gels or solutions can
be used during pregnancy because these medications can be harmful to the fetus. The gel,
cream or solution should be applied using the applicator supplied, which should be thrown
away after use. Follow the instructions supplied, wash hands after use and avoid contact
with eyes. Treatment may be required for up to 4 weeks, if in doubt consult your doctor.
Side effects of Podofilox
Condylox and Condyline cream does not destroy healthy skin, common side effects may
include dryness, peeling, soreness, tenderness, stinging or tingling of treated skin, trouble
in sleeping. If they continue or are bothersome. Contact your doctor if the following more
serious side effects occur: bad odor, bleeding, blistering, crusting, or scabbing of treated
skin. Bloody urine, burning feeling of treated skin, pain during sexual intercourse, problems
with the foreskin of the penis. dizziness, headache or vomiting.
DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use for longer than prescribed without
medical advice. If your symptoms do not improve within 4 weeks or if they become worse,
check with your doctor. AVOID GETTING podofilox IN YOUR EYES or on the inside of your
nose and mouth. If this happens, rinse them with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
FOR WOMEN: DO NOT use during pregnancy because Podofilox can harm the fetus.
