Important Note about prescription drugs and 'without prescription'
Uses of Escitalopram (Lexapro, Cipralex, Feliz S)
Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Escitalopram is used in
the treatment of depression and generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). Patients who suffer
from depression often develop symptoms of anxiety. GAD may be caused by an imbalance
of certain chemicals in the brain, in particular, dopamine and serotonin, which are believed
to regulate mood and behavior. Symptoms may include: a low mood, loss of interest in
usual activities, significant change in weight or appetite, change in sleep patterns,
agitation or lethargy. Fatigue, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, slow thinking or lack of
concentration and thoughts of suicide.
Do not take drugs containing Escitalopram Oxalate for 2 weeks before or after taking any
drugs classed as an MAO inhibitor. These include the antidepressants Marplan, Nardil, and
Parnate. Combining such drugs with Escitalopram can cause serious or even fatal reactions
such as fever, rigidity, twitching, and agitation leading to delirium and coma.
